We are using latest DLMS android application to read the energy meter data. We can read data using RS- 232 port successfully. Need to read data using optical probe. But not able to receive data using optical probe getting message "Failed to receive reply from the device in given time". How we can resolve it? Is there any way of code customisation required to do?. Please give information.
Thank you for the reply.
We are using DLMS meters. Need to communicate using optical probe. If changed from DLMS to IEC getting "Invalid meter type" message. Is there any solution so that we can communicate DLMS meters using Optical probe.
If your meter is using an optical probe there are two options.
1. You can communicate directly with DLMS.
2. You will start the communication using IEC 62056-21 and then communication mode is changed from C to Mode E. After that communication is DLMS. If your meter is using this, you will get a reply where is information from the meter. The start baud rate is 300.
Check the correct baud rate from the manual of the meter.
Hi sir,
Direct communication between android DLMS application using optical probe and DLMS meter is not working. The meter which we are using using DLMS not IEC. We are able to read data from optical probe by directly sending HDLC commands (7E...7E) from serial terminal and it is also working in GXDLMSDirector. Any solution for this.
If you can connect directly from GXDLMSDirector then there should be no problems. Are you using the same optical probe with GXDLMSDirector and Android? What is the manufacturer of the optical probe and what is the model? Do you have a web link to the optical probe?
Hi sir,
Connecting directly from DLMS meter and GXDLMSDirector using optical probe works well without problem. Same optical probe is not working in the android application.
Optical probe information given below
Manufacturer info: L&T MPS: L&T MPS E-Meter USB optic port
Vendor: Future Technology Devices International Ltd ID:403
Product: F232 Serial (UART) IC ID:6001
Serial: L&T-MPS9
Chipset: FTDI
I checked and we don't have this optical probe so I can't check this. I believe that you are using OTG between the Android device and this optical probe.
If you can send a cable to Finland, we can check if we can read the meter. Try this:
Use your phone's camera and take a picture from the LED of the optical probe (that head that is connected to the meter). Can you see any blinking when you make a read from Android? You should see something. You can try this same with GXDLMSDirector and you can see when IR led is blinking. You can't see this without a camera.
Hi,
I also tried to read data via optical probe and failed with message "No serial ports available" from your github android demo.
i have attached optical probe detail here, can you please help me to read data to my phone via optical probe cable. i will be really thankfull to you .
Hope you are doing well.
I am also using above mentioned L&T cable for downloading dlms meter through optical port but in response gets "Failed to receive reply from the device in given time." through android application.
But when trying with Prolific cable, meter is getting download successfully.
Please let me know how this L&T cable should work.
Hi,
Hi,
Change start protocol from DLMS to IEC and you can communicate with an optical probe.

Hi sir,
Hi sir,
Please share the required complete address details. We will try to share optical probe to your location (Finland). So that you can check.
Hi,
